A sunny window perch with a proper view.
A compact enclosed box that bolts onto a window or sliding door, so your cat can lean out into the sun and breeze without a single paw hitting the street. The smallest catio we build, and often the most loved.
The easiest way to give an indoor cat the outdoors.
Not every home has a backyard to work with, and it doesn't need one. A window catio turns any sunny window or glass door into an outdoor perch: a solid frame, heavy mesh, and a shelf or two where your cat can stretch out and watch the world.
We measure your opening, build the box to suit, and fix it so it's weathertight and rock-solid. Your cat steps straight out through the open window and back in whenever they please.
Small footprint, proper build.
Measured to your window
Built around your exact opening, double-hung, awning, casement or sliding door. No gaps, no wobble.
A sunbaking shelf
At least one perch positioned to catch the sun, with room to sprawl, sit up and watch the birds.
Sealed and escape-proof
Heavy mesh on a solid frame, sealed at every join, with no gap a determined cat can push through.
Blends with the house
Slim profile and a finish that suits your wall, so it reads as part of the home, not a bolted-on cage.
Is a window catio right for you?
It's the go-to when space or permission is limited but your cat still deserves fresh air.
- You're in a unit, apartment or townhouse with no usable yard
- You want a low-cost, low-commitment first catio
- There's a sunny window or sliding door the cat already loves
- You've got one or two cats rather than a whole colony
Window Catios, answered.
The things people ask us about window catios.
How much does a window catio cost?
Window catios are the most affordable style we build, since they're compact and use less material. The exact price depends on your window size and how it's fixed, but it's a modest job compared to a full enclosure. You'll get a quote after the site visit, no surprises.
How big can a window catio be?
Anywhere from a shallow lean-out box about the depth of a window box, up to a metre or more deep if there's room outside the wall. We'll suggest a size that suits your cat, your window and any council setback rules.
Will it fit my window or door?
Almost certainly. We build to suit double-hung, awning, casement and sliding windows, as well as glass sliding doors. We measure the opening on the site visit and frame the catio to match.
Does it damage the window or wall?
No. The frame fixes to the surrounding wall or window reveal with proper fixings and is fully sealed against water. If you ever remove it, it patches back cleanly, worth knowing if you're renting.
How does my cat get in and out?
Usually straight through the open window or door. If you'd rather keep the window shut, we can fit a cat flap into a panel or the wall so your cat comes and goes on their own terms.
Is it actually escape-proof?
Yes, that's the whole point. It's heavy-duty mesh on a solid, well-built frame, sealed at every join with no gaps a cat can squeeze or climb through. Built to keep your cat in and other animals out.
Will rain get in?
The frame is sealed where it meets the house so water doesn't track back inside. The catio itself is open-air mesh, so a little weather reaches the perch, most cats love that. We can add a small roof panel over the shelf if you'd prefer a dry spot.
Do I need a council permit for one?
A small window catio almost never needs a permit, but it can depend on your council and where it sits. We'll flag anything worth checking during the site visit. Final say always rests with your local council.
How long does it take to build and install?
Most window catios are made to measure and installed in a single visit once the design's locked in. Lead time before that depends on our current schedule, get in touch for availability.
Can I add to it later?
Definitely. A window catio makes a great starting point. Down the track it can feed into a tunnel, a bigger run or a walk-in enclosure if you move or fall in love with the idea.
How do I get a quote for window catios?
The easiest way is to build your quote online; it takes a couple of minutes and rough answers are fine. Prefer to talk? Get in touch and we'll call you back. Every quote is free and no-obligation; here's how pricing works.
Do you cover window catios across Melbourne?
Yes, we work right across greater Melbourne. If you're not sure you're in range, drop us a line and we'll let you know.
What if a different service would suit me better?
No problem, we cover the lot, patio catios, side runs, backyard cat netting and walk-in playgrounds. Browse the full range of services, or just describe your space when you request a quote and we'll point you to the build that fits.
How long until my cat settles in?
Usually just a few days. Cats are drawn to warmth, height and a good vantage point, so once they've found the sun and something to watch, most make the space their own fast. Nervous or senior cats can take a little longer, we can build in cat ramps, low steps and cosy nooks to bring them along at their own pace. Tell us your cat's character when you request a quote and we'll tailor the fit-out.
